Convert iPhone HEVC to H.264 in Your Browser (Free)

iPhones record video in HEVC (H.265) by default to save space. The catch: HEVC isn't universally supported. Older Windows machines, some Android phones, and many video editors can't open it without extra codecs. Most free desktop tools require installation, and most web tools cap free conversions. AVMint converts HEVC to H.264 in the browser, free and unlimited.

1

Drop your iPhone video

Open AVMint's Convert tool and drag in your .MOV or .MP4 file from the iPhone. AVMint detects the HEVC codec automatically.

2

Select MP4 (H.264)

Choose MP4 as the output format. AVMint will re-encode the video stream from H.265 to H.264 while keeping the audio, resolution, and frame rate. H.264 plays on virtually every device made in the last 15 years.

3

Convert and share anywhere

Click Convert. ffmpeg.wasm handles the codec conversion in your browser. Download the result and you can now play it on Windows 10, send it to Android friends, or import it into older versions of Premiere, Resolve, or iMovie.

Tip

If the resulting H.264 file is much larger than the HEVC original, that's expected — H.264 is roughly 2x less efficient than HEVC. To stay closer to the original size, use AVMint's Compress tool afterward and target the original file size.

FAQ

Will I lose quality going from HEVC to H.264?

There's a small generation loss from re-encoding, but AVMint uses high-quality defaults so the visual difference is minimal. The main tradeoff is file size, not quality.

How long does HEVC to H.264 conversion take?

It depends on length and your CPU. Roughly real-time to 2x real-time on a modern laptop — so a 1-minute clip takes 30-120 seconds. Longer phone videos may take several minutes.
